How Is Windows 7 Comparing With Vista?

The introduction of Microsoft's Vista system a few years back was watched by the technical world with apprehension. Many were not happy with the change. The comparison of the two systems, as we began using the new Vista, did not help our feelings either. We had to re-learn several functions and it just took longer. And Vista was slower than XP in running some applications.

Adding a new Vista PC to an XP network proved to be really fun… especially when there was a static IP being used. Other software was not ready immediately for the change much less the mixing of the two systems. Some company networks were all changed to Vista at once due to the problems. Others decided to wait and stay with XP a little longer and see.

When Windows 7 was introduced there was a lot of hope that it would be more like the old XP than Vista. But the IT world was cautiously waiting. Would it solve problems or add to them?

Vista was a more powerful operating system for heavy duty uses and high speed uses such as gaming than XP. So you'll find that not everyone was unhappy with it. But now the new "7" has the advantage of the simplicity of XP and the power of Vista. And without the glitches and the non-compatibility issues we faced with introduction of Vista. Both Vista and Win7 are better equipped to work with the now prevalent dual core and multi-core processors than was the old XP.

For me going from Vista to Window 7 is great. I liked XP and now windows is back pretty much the way it was. In fact, those that had waited and not gone to Vista faced very little change except getting a faster computer.

Changing a Vista computer over to Windows 7 is questionable for a couple of reasons. Some PC's are not compatible and simply cannot be changed. And improved performance in the new system is really limited to the higher performance computer with high speed processor such as used in gaming. The average computer will see very little change.
